2009 Minimax Team confirmed - November 2008

The 2009 Velocity Motorsport Minimax line up sees current Driver Nathan Harrison joined by 11 year old Joe Byrne. Details of new recruit Joe can be found in the Drivers section of the website.

Its great to have the team confirmed so early in the winter as it will allow the Velocity team to prepare the two young drivers through the winter with an extensive testing program.

The 2 minimax drivers are set to enter the 2009 Super 1 British championship where they will be driving Tony kart chassis.

At the recent Shennington Club meeting in freezing cold wet weather the 2 drivers showed great team spirit working closely together finishing in a creditable 2nd (Nathan) and 3rd (Joe) position.

Velocity team members would like to welcome Joe into the team and look forward to a sucessful enjoyable 2009 season.

Louise rounds off season in style - October 2008

The final round of Super1 for 2008 saw Louise Richardson put in one of her best performances of her career and she was not the only one with all Velocity's drivers finishing off the Championships with good results. Louise put in a great display, after qualifying for the first final in 5th, one row behind an ever improving Nathan Harrison. In a hard fought race, where getting the tow and out-thinking your rivals was required Louise did just that to come through and take the win, Nathan gained fastest lap but an unfortunate mechanical issue robbed him of a definate podium finish. The second final saw chaos in the pits as a light shower began just before the start, a quick change of tyres and set up meant that Louise got off to a good start and was well in the lead by half distance however a hard charging Harrison Scott over-turned the advantage to take the win, Louise was happy to keep second knowing that 3rd in the championship was hers! Nathan Harrison was showing just how much he has improved over the season and with a good choice of set up by his race engineer Carbon; Nathan hauled himself from 26th on the grid to finish in an impressive 6th position by the end of the race and gain himself 12th in the championship, he must be one to watch in the Mini max class next year.

In Junior max Billy Albones was showing dominate form taking pole position for the race and he led the first two laps until another mechanical failure robbed poor Billy of the chance of victory, Albones has been purely dominante when he has not had issues and finished a creditable 7th in the championship despite a lot of bad luck. Bill Cowley who was 3rd in the championship going into the Wigan event found it difficult to get the most out of his equipment and had some unfortunate incidents meaning he finished mid pack, in front of Andrew Richardson who had a similar day. Cowley did however finish 6th in the championship and looks to go much better in 2009 with the support of both Velocity and Tony Kart. Ben Walker enjoyed himself and made the A final, his objective for the weekend.

Amanda Lassu fought hard but was caught out slightly by the conditions meaning that she could not get the race win she needed to improve in the championship, she did however finish a great third in the championship.

Drivers on form at Rotax Cup - September 2008

Velocity Drivers Nathan Harrison and Louise Richardson were in action at the Rotax Cup held at the 3 Sisters club at Wigan. Both drivers were using the event as practice and the team using it as a vital test session for the upcoming last round of the Super 1 championship. Both drivers were right on the pace and racing hard to both take front on the grid positions. Nathan led the final for many laps whilst Louise and Callum Bowyer hung on in his tow. Unfortunately Louise's nemesis of the season - Callum once again slid by and on the following lap nipped by Nathan to take the win. Second and third at the event however was a great result for the team and areas of improvement have been identified for Super 1.

Velocity drivers awarded Ginetta chance

Following great drives at Kartmasters, Louise Richardson, Bill Cowley and Billy Albone have all been selected to compete in the Ginetta Scholorship shoot out which has the amazing prize of a full seasons racing in the Ginetta championship free of charge! 3 of the 6 drivers selected come from the Velocity team once again illustrating the teams potential for grooming future talents. Check out the 3 drivers' progress at the shoot out (to be held on 11th of November at Elvington) on the Ginetta website or check back here soon!

Rowrah Super1 almost for Andrew Richardson - August 2008

Another challenging day due to the amazing British weather saw Bill Cowley put his Team Velocity Tony kart on pole position for the Junior max final. Unfortunately it was not to be his day however after being involved in a first lap incident. It was therefore left to Andrew Richardson and Billy Albone to fly the flag for the team both fighting their way through the pack, Andrew managed to get him up to third and looked set for his first Super1 podium However Billy had other ideas putting in 5 super consistent fast laps to claw back the gap and pulling off an audacious overtaking manouvere at the end of the straight to take third. Over the line Billy was only a fraction over 2 seconds behind the eventual winner with Andrew following close behind - a true gritty drive by both. A bag of points for all Velocity's drivers moved them all well up in the championship going into the last race of the season. Andrew was mega disapointed after the race not to have taken the podium but cheered up when he reealised it was his best finish of the year at Super 1.

Double 2nd at Kartmasters PFI -August 2008

Great showings by the team drivers in both Junior max and Mini max saw the team almost retain its Kartmasters title, unfortunately it was not meant to be after great racing both Bill Cowley (JMax) and Louise Richardson (MiniMax) came in second after hard fought races. Other notable drives came from Andrew Richardson and Billy Albones moving up from the back of the field following incidents in the heats. Louise's drive obviously did not go un-noticed as she was awarded a test in a Ginetta racing car as part of her prize.

Team manager and Driver Coach Carbon and Chris had to congratulate the team from Portugal where they were busy sweltering their way through the field in the European KF2 championship final finishing a very creditable 6th in Europe after overtaking 26 karts in the finals!

Team in supreme form at PFI - July 2008

The fourth round of the Super 1 championship saw the team race on home ground, PFI scene of last years superb team victory at Kartmasters. The team once again proved to be virtually unbeatable. Billy Albones once again took pole in Junior max with Andrew Richardson qualifying right at the sharp end too. It was Bill Cowley however who took the victory with a superb piece of driving coming from behind to take the win. Billy Albones finished ninth after dropping to stone last following a first corner incident which unfortunately eliminated Andrew Richardson. It was therefore up to Louise to restore the family honour showing great skill in tricky wet dry conditions to win the first minimax final from 7th on the grid, Nathan Harrison also showed great potential by coming home in fourth position. IN the second final Louise continued her run of good form finishing 2nd whilst Nathan improved 1 place to take his first super 1 podium position gaining fastest lap along the way - a great performance by all! Amanda Lassu consolidated her DD2 championship position with a solid run to 5th place after a number of troubles in free practise. The team now looks forward to Kartmasters where it hopes to retain its GP title.

Billy dominates at Buckmore - June 2008

After the long wait following the Snowy Shennington the team headed to Buckmore for round 3 of the Rotax Super 1 championship. Billy Albone chose Buckmore as the place to kick start his championship campaign after poor results in the first to rounds and he did so in style! From pole position Billy dominated the final and took a well deserved victory. Behind Billy team mate Bill Cowley fought hard and ground out a 7th place which keeps in the hunt for the championship. On an up and down weekend the team saw all of its Minimax drivers end up in the ambulance in seperate incidents, Louise suffered a very rare axle failure causing a horrific crash which she was lucky to escape from. Luckily all drivers were ok and fought back through the field in the second final.

Harrison stars at Stars! - May 2008

Harrison starred in the Whilton Mill Stars of Tommorrow championship round taking his first National A podium with 3rd place. After good heat finishes Nathan lined up 6th on the grid, he started the race fantastically and got quickly to third, the race then opened up for him and he took the lead with a great overtake on Matt Parry who later drove off the track trying to keep up! Nathan then dominated the race until the last lap where he was caught and passed by some excellent driving of Callum Bowyer and Jordon King who had had to work together to catch Nathan. Nathan's efforts did not go un-noticed - as the youngest ever podium driver in Minimax, he was given the 'Driver of the Day' award and is set to star in an interview on Central news!

Super 1 Round 2 - Shennington - April 2008

Once again the weather played its part in proceedings with everything from hot sunshine to 5 inches of snow. Racing on the Sunday was delayed so much by the wintery conditions that the meeting had to be called to a halt prior to the finals being started. Billy Albone showed good pace winning a heat after 2 unfortunate incidents in his other races. Nathan Harrison also continued to show his pace by Qualifying 4th in timed practice and coming through the heats in 8th. Also in mini max Louise Richardson was showing the consistency required to achieve a great championship run, she would leave the event in fourth palce in the championship, her brother Andrew continued the family's run of form and went 2 better, leaving the event in second place in the championship. The team now has a long lay off prior to the next round at Buckmore in mid June where the team hopes for better weather!

Super 1 Round 1 - Clay Pigeon - March 2008

The usual wet and windy Clay Pigeon greeted the team for the first round of the Super 1 championship. The team had mixed fortunes with all drivers showing great pace at times. Andrew Richardson, the teams Junior Max driver, scored well and ended up 5th in the damp final. Ben Walker also impressed making the A final and showing consistent pace on his first super 1 outing. Amanda Lassu looked set for the win in DD2 until an unfortunate incident on the Rolling up lap curtailed her race after she had taken pole in qualifying convincingly. Nathan Harrison showed good pace and set fastest lap in the first final and was running inside the top ten prior to being taken of on the last lap. Jamie Dzyra drove consistently and scored well with two top 5 positions, Louise Richardson also showed her potential and determination by coming back from a huge crash in the heats to overtake 3/4's of the field and finish 7th bagging good points along the way. The team heads to Shennington hoping for better weather and better fortune.

Jamie Dzyra joins team - February 2008
